The Audition Tapes

To create The Audition Tapes , Lauren Marsden sent out a casting call to actors in the San Francisco Bay Area, using the character titles The Seasonal Bachelor, The Frisky Entrepreneur, The Sociopathic Gentleman, The Affectionate Drug Dealer, and The Son of a Dead Rock Star. The selected actors were given no script or instruction other than to show up to an on-camera audition, ready to improvise their characters on the spot, knowing that the film would be made up entirely of these audition tapes. In the film, these five, vaguely familiar, fictional men come to life through the actors’ meandering
interpretations, revealing sincere, vulnerable, and at times darkly humorous portraits of generic male stereotypes and possibly also of themselves.
