Monodramas

Monodramas is a participatory video digitally produced by thirty-seven people who
refuse conditions and economics of low-paid, technologically networked-work.
Comprised of fifteen short vignettes, the video appears as both documentary and
science fiction, anchored in current conditions of precarious labour.

The project began as a group discussion around the possibilities of a general strike
against globally fragmented crowdwork. The videos are the result of an intensive
collaboration between workers who normally earn their livelihood via various digital
labour platforms, and the scripts were conceived, edited, written and interpreted
primarily through email dialogue and instant messaging. The 'characters,' who
alternate between playing both each other and themselves, are labour organizers,
children, marketers, voiceover actors, and striking post-production workers.
