  • This tape is dedicated to the Chinese students massacred in the Peking (Beijing) uprising of 1989. Central to its focus is the metaphor of life, death, and resurrection that is expressed through the lotus. The tape features images of drooping lotuses, reflected in the mirror-like waters of a large pond. Written reflections on the temporal in life, the perception of images, and the capriciousness of nature integrate text and image into a statement that suggests a syntheses of video and poetry. The division between what we perceive to be quasi-permanent and what we perceive to be temporal is a fine line. Ulitmately, nothing is attached to this world, and we are powerless and helpless and can do little but bow down in humility to nature's dispensations.
