  • INDIAN HEARTS BEAT - The lives of three women from different generations and cultural background are woven together in an electronic tapestry using real and surreal landscapes. The narrative conveyed through performances and texts by Ruth Horicks-Sujir, Rachna Joshi, and Leila Sujir focuses on notions of homesickness and cultural displacement --travelling not as a tourist, but as a foreigner. The film footage shot in India is re-processed, making a river of images and becomes a place of the memory and imagination encircled by the fabric of the narrative and the video itself. This videotape work with tapestry as a device to connect the three journeys and as a device to construct the image, showing the viewer an electronic tapestry; literally using a sari to make a river of memories and using the electronic fabric of video itself to frame moving shot in Burnaby.
