The Midnight Studio Rambles are a series of tapes comprised of sculptural sets built by the artist in her studio. Currently there are 5 in total. In these rambles, through the camera, vision occurs outside of the body, assuming the role of a displaced rambler. And so through a slow and methodical tracing the objects and sets with this visual apparatus, consciousness also seems to meld with this material outside the body, bringing together visual and haptic senses in a unfamiliar sensorial hybrid.
C) ÒFRIENDSÓ, 9:00
This tape has nothing to do with Rachel or Ross. Instead, what we see are two "ghosts," which continue in a similar aesthetic vein as Middleton s "Midnight Studio Rambles" series. With "FRIENDS" we see two lone sculptures on wheels, pathetic and free standing, made by Middleton in her studio, using an array of studio props for the set these friends perpetually enact their relationship upon. These friends engage in discussion through varying bass lines and pick-up music. Our "FRIENDS" come to life thanks to a hidden animator who crouches behind them, helping them to speak when necessary.
