Shot from within a 3 x5 closet, Six recreates dramatic shots and actions from the movies: Sunset Boulevard; Svengali; Of Human Bondage; Phantom of the Opera; Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?; and Night of the Living Dead. The tape invites the viewer to think about this particular combination of scenes and replaces the movie industry s elaborate sense of artifice with a concentration on the emotional drives behind each scene. The characters portrayed, all display dual and split personalities. What a feat of double displacement for the actress whose work already requires repeatedly identifying with and consuming a constantly shifting series of subjects.
